Get
in the Game
For
those seeking the ultimate trip in virtual reality to date: complete
with paranoia about the government, cover-ups, conspiracies and
intrigues, let me introduce "Majestic".
Majestic
, which will cost $10 a month to play, is a suspense-thriller
that uses telephones, fax machines, e-mail, instant messaging
and the World Wide Web to drop players in the center of a swirl
of mysterious and disturbing events.
Characters
can call players on real telephones at their homes and places
of work. Handwritten faxes from a character on the lam are not
unusual in the spooky doings of Majestic. Electronic Arts, the
computer game publisher that makes Majestic, promotes it as a
game that "plays you." In fact, you won't know where reality ends
and the game begins. I'm curious to know what their disclaimer
sounds like (maybe something like, "Not for the weak-minded
or gullable").

Shock
the Monkey (that's you!)
There's another new game out that will give you a shock when your
warring character takes a hit... in fact, it will immobilize your
hands. ``Force feedback'' joysticks and gamepads have been around
for years, delivering vibrations similar to the buzzing of a pager
or cellular phone on silent mode. Bioforce
takes it a step further.

The
Mountain Goddess is Jealous!
Women
have made enormous inroads in Japan's male-dominated society over
the past half century. But there are still places where they're
not welcome -- such as the inside of tunnels under construction.
In August, a company building a bullet-train tunnel in central
Japan was conducting a tour of the passageway for about 100 local
citizens. At the entrance, however, women in the group were barred
from entering. The reason? Bad luck. Japanese superstition holds
that by entering the tunnel under construction, women would arouse
the jealousy of the mountain goddess, and cause disaster.

Hey
You Clone!
Ever wondered about cloning yourself? Why not give it a virtual
whirl?
Graphics
chip company Matrox has released a new graphics insert card for
personal computers that, when combined with its bundled software,
will let you create a virtual copy of your talking head for use
as an online communications tool or for giving presentations.

Just
for Fun... Hangman
I recently found a few versions of the classic Hangman. The site
, Cooltools,
reviews 5 versions of the game. I took a few minutes to play the
Periodic Hangman based on the Periodic Table of Elements. How's
that for refreshing your memory of Chemistry class? Each wrong
letter causes your little atomic man him to lose an atom. I succeeded
in getting the word Einsteinium correct, heroicly saving the little
guy from disintegration.
Have
fun! Sara
